The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenge to local government. The Communities team at Essex County Council set up Essex Coronavirus Action Support Group (ECAS) alongside the Essex Public Health team, and in partnership with community Leaders.

Following a review by the Emergency Care Improvement Programme (ECIP) in October 2016, County Durham and Darlington Local Area Delivery Board has implemented a system-wide set of changes to improve performance. Gateshead Care and Health System has drawn on its history of strong relationships to support residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. System partners have shared their experience of using their collective system leadership approach with the Care and Health Improvement Team as they reflect on what they want to keep and build on.

The CAMHS team are implementing systemic, relationship therapy with additional behavioural and CBT programmes as appropriate. Similarly, they use the Assessment Intervention Moving on (AIMS) sexual offending programme with children as part of a wider offer, including systemic or family therapies addressing the complex family trauma.

Breckland Council in Norfolk and South Holland District Council in Lincolnshire have a shared management model and have jointly launched a comprehensive transformation programme that includes an important work stream on digitalisation.

To provide an equitable hospital discharge experience for residents whilst improving performance associated to delayed transfers, a bespoke Hospital Discharge Service was established in October 2017, with the use of iBCF monies to expand the council’s ‘discharge team’ located at the hospital where the greater number of admissions historically occurred. The London Boroughs of Islington and Camden run a successful child weight management programme called the Healthy Living Practitioner Service that offers one-to-one support from a nutritionist attached to the school nursing teams. This case study forms part of our resource on the National Child Measurement Programme.
