Sheffield City Region attracted over 100 businesses and 1,000 employees to apply for skills funding with a direct, explicit link to business growth.

Sheffield’s diverse freelance artists and creatives were seriously impacted by Covid lockdowns and the cancellation of arts events. National government support was often not available to them.

Sheffield has one of the largest district energy networks in the UK, feeding leisure facilities, council buildings, universities and homes.

Sheffield Museums have a successful volunteering programme with over 200 volunteers who engage in research, events, creative workshops, heritage walks and gardening, and support volunteering for people with barriers to entering the workplace.

During the pandemic, Sheffield Museums wanted to ensure the city’s museums and the collections continued to provide inspiration for the young people. While physical access to the sites continued to be limited, they worked in partnership with Ignite Yorkshire to run Young Makers - project-based online work experience for young people aged 14-25 years old.

This report was produced by the Building the Right Support Advisory Group, as part of the wider action plan developed by the Building the Right Support Delivery Board. Sheffield, like other areas across the country, has found itself under a lot of scrutiny both regionally and nationally because of its delayed transfers of care (DTOC) performance. This example of how local areas are working to implement overall system change forms part of our managing transfers of care resource.

Sheffield City Council has used government funding to set up a specialist multi agency support team, which works alongside the access and inclusion service to help keep the most vulnerable children in school by providing holistic support to the whole family.

At the start of COVID-19 the council wanted to identify over 70’s living alone to ensure they were given sufficient support, however, the council didn’t have an effective way of identifying this target group.
