Project context

Outside Edge Theatre Company (OETC) offers free drama activities to help people affected by addiction live healthier lives. They have partnered for over 20 years with local authority commissioners in West and North West London to co-produce evidence-based, peer-support activities that improve wellbeing to prevent relapse. This case study forms part of the Value of culture - community engagement section of our online Culture Hub.

A café staffed by substance misuse service users has been created in Oxfordshire to help people recover from their problems.

Oxfordshire’s substance misuse has seen an improvement in performance for clients with alcohol problems after re-organising the way clinics are delivered. The service introduced segmentation – grouping together clinics with similar clients.

Oxfordshire County Council has worked closely with local GPs to ensure women have access to LARC and the system is administered fairly in terms of whether it is the council or NHS that pays for the service. This case study forms part of our sexual health resource.

The community fund, with grants of up to £1,000 at a time, is available for partners who want to run smokefree events and initiatives. 

This example of a local initiative forms part of our managing transfers of care resource. In 2015, a whole-system review looked at the interface between social care and health. This improved working relationships, and enabled open and honest system challenges.

Response are the largest third sector provider of mental health and wellbeing services tailored to young people in Oxfordshire. In partnership with six voluntary and community sector providers, Response came together to develop the Mental Wealth Academy.

In the Pan-Lancashire flexible agreement, 39 providers have been selected through competitive tendering to provide supported living to people with a learning disability and/or autism who display behaviour that challenges. Norfolk County Council has been working closely with partners on the project Addiction, Diversion, Disruption, Enforcement, and Recovery (ADDER) pilot to reduce instances of drug related crime and deaths within the county.
