As part of the preparation for the new city of Milton Keynes reaching its half century, the Milton Keynes Futures 2050 Commission - a group of nine individuals, chaired by the Vice Chair of Cranfield University, with other commissioners being either experts in their fields or local champions - produced a series of reports entitled ‘Milton Keynes: Making a Great City Greater’.  

The Strategic Growth Locations Study (SGLS) was prepared to establish a level of understanding of the potential for growth change and investment across a South Essex, a diverse geography facing considerable challenges in meeting growth needs.

Following the closure of the brickworks and brickfields in the 1980s the brownfield site was designated as a replacement site for the fourth planned ‘township’ of the Peterborough New Town in the 1980s.  

The site is now a strategic allocation made in the adopted South Cambridge local plan in September 2018 (Policy SS/6) for Waterbeach New Town, for approximately 8,000 to 9,000 new homes.

Fareham Borough Council (FBC) dedicated an entire section of their local plan to policies related to the delivery of Welborne Garden Village, known as the ‘Welborne Plan’, in recognition of its strategic importance to delivering growth in the Borough.

We commissioned consultants to consider approaches to improve the private rented sector, undertake research and best practice from other councils and from this propose a number of options to help the team address poor management and disrepair in the private rented sector.

This project was led and managed by the London Housing Directors’ Group in collaboration with the North London Housing Partnership. It was supported by London Councils and commissioned by LB Islington as the North London Housing Partnership’s host borough.

The scope of this project was to understand changes in design quality beyond the grant of either full or outline planning permission and to strengthen the role of local planning authorities in securing higher quality in the final build out of development schemes.

London Borough of Lambeth has benefited from over £800k from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) Land Release Fund (LRF), which is managed by the One Public Estate (OPE) programme, to support delivery of affordable housing and regeneration on council owned land.
