Re-thinking local, launched at the our 2020 Annual Conference, highlighted how councils have shown to be true leaders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Government restrictions and national lockdowns enabled the country to see their local area in a whole new light. The campaign observed how, with the right resources, local government can continue to rebuild communities and recover from the pandemic.
With the right funding and powers, councils can continue to lead their local areas, improve residents’ lives, reduce demand for public services and save money for the taxpayer.
Helping children and young people to fulfil their potential is a key ambition of all councils, but services that can support them to do so are under increasing pressure.
Our proposal brings together advice and guidance, employment, skills, apprenticeship and business support around place, providing a more coherent offer for the unemployed and low skilled of all ages, while supporting local economic growth by forging better links between training providers and employers.
#OurDay is a yearly social media campaign to reveal a day in the life of local government and how councils deliver 800+ services on a day-to-day basis.
