The Local Government Association (LGA) and Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH) have jointly produced this practical advice for Directors of Public Health and others leading the local response to the loneliness and social isolation issues arising from the COVID-19 outbreak.

This report tracks sector led-improvement activity undertaken between March and September, 2020, focusing on support provided through our COVID-19 refocused offer.

At the heart of this research was a recognition that the way we talk about homelessness prevention needs to change, recognising the vital importance of upstream cross-service prevention work in local homelessness systems, and the role of councils, their partners and central government policy in delivering this work.

This is guidance for local government and NHS commissioners about a category of supported housing referred to as ‘Specialised Supported Housing’ (SSH), particularly lease-based models of SSH.

This project was developed to create a national picture regarding safeguarding adults’ activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was considered important to understand what happened to learn any lessons for future COVID-19 outbreaks and respond to changing safeguarding needs. It is hoped the data collected could improve understanding of the impact of COVID-19 locally and nationally to help inform preparations and future planning.

In September and October 2020 the Local Government Association (LGA) conducted a survey of Heads of Planning of English local authorities with responsibility for planning. The purpose of this survey was to estimate the number of dwellings allocated in local plans which had not yet either received permission or were yet under consideration.

The asset-based approach sees citizens and communities as co-producers of health and wellbeing. It promotes community networks, relationships and friendships as a way of providing mutual help and support and empowers communities to control their futures and create tangible resources for themselves.

In June 2020 the Local Government Association (LGA) conducted a consultation to gather views on its draft Model Member Code of Conduct as part of its work on supporting the sector to continue to aspire to high standards of leadership and performance. Responses to the consultation were gathered through an online questionnaire as well as by email via a dedicated inbox. This report combines all of the responses received and presents an overview of the themes that emerged.
