This report makes explicit the links between health and the local economy, their interdependence, and the action that local authorities and their partners can take to ensure that health and wellbeing are key considerations in local and regional economic development strategies.

The LGA in collaboration with NHS Digital is grant funding digital innovation in social care, with projects ranging from new assistive technology to data analytics to predict demand. Apply now for the third wave of the programme – deadline to apply is 7 March 2019.

This publication demonstrates current examples of how councils support adult and young carers locally in a range of different ways from respite breaks to discount cards to tailored information and advice.

Whether it is supporting stopping smoking, encouraging healthy eating, protecting good mental health, or delivering universal or targeted health visiting services or simply working closely with the NHS - councils have a significant role to play.

Self care is about giving people choice and control by helping them to decide how best to protect, maintain or improve their health and wellbeing.

Our support spans every step of the journey towards developing a fully integrated health and care system.

The examples in this report show what can be achieved by system leaders and staff from local government, the NHS, the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, and service user and carer groups working together to improve health and deliver person-centred care.

This briefing paper is based on work at two LGA/ Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) workshops in April/May 2018 on working with risk in the context of Making Safeguarding Personal.
