This report by the LGA Task and Finish Group on Ageing sets out the increasing contribution to society and the economy older people can make through empowered local government and challenges the commonly-held belief that an ageing population is a burden.

The Local Government Association (LGA) Task and Finish Group on Ageing was established to explore the challenges and opportunities that an ageing population presents for local government and communities.

The LGA will be considering the findings of the report in the development of its priorities, policy positioning and work plan recommendations that will be put forward to the LGA's Community Wellbeing Board in September 2015.

The Ageing Task and Finish Group meetings heard from, and reflected on, contributions from experts from a wide variety of fields, including academic researchers, and leaders across a range of sectors. Contributors addressed an array of topics, reflecting the breadth of this agenda, ranging from housing, health and social care, and community development, to employment, technology, transport, and neighbourhood design.
