Millions of people living in rural England are at risk of being “left behind” and missing out on their fair share of future prosperity following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, council leaders warn today.

“Early intervention services such as children’s centres and family support services play a crucial role in supporting children and helping to prevent problems becoming more serious later on."

“By sharing resources and information, councils can reflect on their own performance at the same time as learning from other local authority experiences. This process will enable councils to prepare for continued challenges that they will face.”

“Councils have pulled out all the stops to protect children’s budgets but are now being forced to cut funding for vital services such as early intervention support, leaving some children having to reach crisis point before they get help."

The new Prime Minister must publish the long-awaited adult social care green paper before Parliament goes into recess in September.

The report, based on 22 effective HWBs across the country, shows the boards are driving health and social care integration and making sure that prevention is at the heart of this - helping to keep people well in the first place, rather than managing ill health better.

Local Government Association’s Housing spokesman, Cllr Martin Tett, responds to a report by the Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee on modern methods of construction, which says councils need to build more homes.

“Councils, which are responsible for public health, run a range of innovative programmes to help people quit smoking and have taken great strides in helping people to stub out tobacco for good."
