As pupils have broken up from school, 119,830 children in England will be living in temporary accommodation during the end-of-year break, according to latest government figures.

Councils in England spent £142 million placing homeless households in bed and breakfasts in 2019/20, compared with £26.7 million in 2010/11 - a 430 per cent increase.

“We really do encourage parents to check if their child needs any vaccinations to make sure they are properly protected.”

The Local Government Association is calling for the Government to urgently bring forward details of its comprehensive plan to ensure the financial sustainability of councils this year and next.

“Local government can play a key role in driving a sustainable recovery that meets the needs of local communities and businesses."

More councils in England are set to benefit from the latest round of the Local Government Association’s Behavioural Insights Programme as they continue to lead their communities through the COVID-19 crisis.

“The Digital Connectivity programme, which is part of our sector-led improvement offer, is helping all councils to provide vital services for residents who don’t have access or confidence to use digital platforms."

Three Return to Work campaigns – focusing on ICT, planning and legal – will identify and provide skilled professionals with free training or resources, so they can restart their highly-valued roles and support councils with their COVID-19 recovery strategies.

“Councils are doing all they can to support care providers in their areas but pressures clearly remain, with our own commissioned research suggesting that providers face extra costs of £6.6 billion by the end of September this year."
