Cllr Nick Forbes, Senior Vice Chair of the Local Government Association, responds to analysis from Diabetes UK showing that less than half of people eligible for an NHS Health Check in the last five years have received one.

Councils are committed to working with government and developers to build the housing the country needs.

“We are pleased that government is acting on councils’ concerns about the minority of unscrupulous landlords who exploit the supported housing system for financial gain while providing poor quality accommodation and support to people in vulnerable circumstances."

“The vast majority of social landlords are responsible and provide decent housing to tenants and residents, but recent reports have shone a light on the need for continuous learning and improvement to be made."

“The £125 million announced in the Spending Review for local authorities to implement the new statutory duty is good, but this funding is only for the 2021/22 financial year and councils would benefit from longer-term funding to allow for better planning and greater consistency for vital support services."

“There needs to be a greater focus on prevention and early intervention measures to tackle the root causes, support more victims, and stop domestic abuse occurring in the first place."

"It’s positive to see the Government has allocated an £8 million fund towards support for children who witness domestic abuse, and help with their recovery through locally commissioned projects. However, considerably more must still be done."
