n October 2014, the LGA first produced its FGM Guide for Councillors. Much has happened since then. Mandatory reporting to the police has been introduced for professionals, new statutory guidance has been produced and a number of female genital mutilation (FGM) Protection Orders have been taken out to protect actual or potential victims from FGM. 

The case studies featured here demonstrate how councils are getting their local communities involved in tackling a broad range of issues and challenges.

There is growing recognition that loneliness is a serious problem, with far reaching implications, not just for individuals, but also for wider communities, which merits the attention of local authorities.

Cheltenham, Cotswold, Forest of Dean and West Oxfordshire councils' 2020 Vision Programme is about making sustainable revenue savings, maintaining good quality services to the public, and developing a culture of creativity.
