This case study forms part of the What Good Looks Like report on people with a learning disability and autistic people. This co-produced report was commissioned from the Building the Right Support (BTRS) Advisory Group, as part of the wider action plan developed by the Building the Right Support Delivery Board. It has been supported by Partners in Care and Health.

The council’s personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education service, which is funded by public health, has produced a detailed timetable setting out what schools need to do and what they can expect from the PSHE service. This case study is an example of the many pro-active and positive approaches which local authorities are taking to support inclusive relationships education, relationships and sex education (RSE).

Brighton and Hove City Council have a diverse community with varying needs and have long valued engaging with victims and survivors to inform their domestic abuse service provision. In 2019/20, they wanted to ensure that their future local service provision would be truly inclusive of all victims and survivors.

The project team are awaiting delivery of the products from the supplier as migration to the new system and user acceptance testing is completed and verified for the Go-live launch.

Brighton & Hove launched a voluntary healthy choice scheme 14 years ago for cafes, restaurants and takeaways and is now making it mandatory for its commissioned catering services to follow good practice.

Brighton City Council runs a comprehensive breastfeeding support programme, involving drop-in clinics and a network of peer supporters. Targeted work to provide extra help to communities with the lowest rates of breastfeeding has also been carried out. It has helped the city achieve some of the best breastfeeding rates in the country.

Brighton & Hove Council identified a number of households who said they do not need the energy council tax rebate which is intended to help with fuel bills. In response, they supported the launch of the Brighton & Hove Cost of Living Crisis Appeal, the funds of which will go directly to supporting the most vulnerable households in the area.
