Palmer Park library in East Reading supports a range of students, including learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities at nearby Reading College (run by Activate Learning) to gain, develop and improve customer service skills, offering a way of gaining skills in a real life environment, whilst ensuring that a public library service can still be sustainably provided.

The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and My Cheshire Without Abuse (My CWA) wanted to improve domestic abuse services across Cheshire with an emphasis on challenging perpetrators.

In the Pan-Lancashire flexible agreement, 39 providers have been selected through competitive tendering to provide supported living to people with a learning disability and/or autism who display behaviour that challenges. This case study forms part of the Transforming Care useful information library.

When responsibility for public health transferred to local government in 2013, HIV rates in London were rising. This case study explains how effective stakeholder engagement and clear communication brought all 33 London boroughs together to tackle the issue and deliver change.

This project was led and managed by the London Housing Directors’ Group in collaboration with the North London Housing Partnership. It was supported by London Councils and commissioned by LB Islington as the North London Housing Partnership’s host borough.

Developing an online portal to report and track public realm issues. There is functionality for Parish Councillors and Clerks to see a map showing the reports and status of a range of public realm issues, e.g. street lighting, potholes, flooding, pavement and highway defects. This forms part of our Digital Channel Shift Programme.

Post-COVID 19 lockdown, Colchester Borough Council faced reduced use of its long-stay car parks and pressure for increased pedestrian and cycle access to the town centre. The solution was to enable a Park Active site for Colchester to encourage motorists to park in peripheral car parks more often and actively complete their journeys by walking or cycling.  The approach is part of a national pilot programme being led by the BPA and supported by the UK Government.

Summary Springfield Park is in an area of Cheltenham that ranks high in the tables of deprivation. Far from being the community asset it was designed to be, fears about personal safety and anti-social behaviour meant the park was shunned by local residents. Cheltenham Borough Council turned to the local community for a solution.

While parks and open spaces became a place of refuge and respite for the general public during lockdown, parks staff at Rugby were focused on supporting the delivery of essential services.
