Local councils are responsible for delivering over 800 services ranging from adult social care to environmental health, libraries to trading standards, children’s services to highway maintenance and from public health to planning.

In June 2019 the Local Government Association (LGA) conducted an online survey of traffic management officers on the Traffic Management Act 2004.

In March 2015 the LGA wrote to local authorities (LAs) inviting them to complete an online self-assessment about their plans to prepare for the transfer of commissioning responsibilities for 0-5 year olds from NHS England to local government on 1 October 2015.

The use of predictive analytics in local government is still at an early stage, although it is becoming more common. While there are some sophisticated examples of predictive analytics being used across a range of local public services, much of the sector is just starting to consider the opportunities, and risks, of this type of technology.

The LGA and the Association of Directors of Public Health (ADPH) invited directors of public health (DsPH) to take part in a survey about local authority commissioned weight management.

The survey was conducted by the LGA's Research and Information team in October 2016 in order to gather information about local authorities' plans and preparations in case of severe weather, to help LGA's lobbying of central government and to highlight the scale of authorities' efforts.
