This is the final report from an independent research study into T Levels and industry placements in councils in England. The research was commissioned by the LGA and undertaken by York Consulting LLP between January and March 2023.

These case studies explore the different ways that local authorities are supporting children in the youth justice system, to keep them safe and stop offending behaviours.

This report by the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition considers the policy landscape in England in relation to children and young people’s mental health over the last decade, and reviews progress relating to implementation and impact. The report is informed by a rapid review of policy which was carried out between January and March 2023. These findings reflect the view of the Coalition, not the LGA. 

The Local Government Association commissioned Isos Partnership in November 2022 to undertake a short research project. The aim has been to better understand the trends, impacts and drivers of recent private and voluntary sector nursery closures, and consider the local and national implications.

Bremner & Co were commissioned by the Local Government Association (LGA) to capture learning from councils across England about nutrition in early years settings. This report examines the relationship between councils and all early year settings - maintained, Private and Voluntary Institutions (PVIs) and childminders.

This policy paper was developed based on a range of discussions with stakeholders across councils to understand what local authorities believe they need to see change so they can effectively deliver on their sufficiency duty for early years education and childcare. It explores the challenges in the current system facing local authorities, providers and parents and it looks at what might work going forward.

The LGA commissioned the Isos Partnership to work with councils and their partners to understand the key enablers and barriers to sustained improvement in Children’s Services.

In October and November 2023, the Local Government Association sent an online survey to all councils providing children’s social care in England. The purpose of the survey was to assess the frequency and costs arising from high-cost children’s social care placements, as well as to explore reasons why the costs of certain placements are particularly high.
